Feature Watch
Invicta 9937
|
|
The Invicta 9937 has the look and feel of a Rolex
Submariner. The list price, $1150, is one quarter that of the Rolex. If you
are looking for a substantial timepiece at an affordable price with the classic
styling of the Rolex Submariner, take a look at the Invicta 9937. With a
street price of around $400, the 9937 comes with a Swiss 25 jewel automatic
movement that is second to none but the most expensive watches on the market
and other features not usually found on watches in this price range.

 |
|
The movement - The 9937 is powered by one of the best
25 jewel Swiss automatic movements made today, the ETA 2824-2. The ETA-2824-2
is known for its quality, accuracy and reliability. The 9937 has a very smooth
second hand because the ETA 2824-2 vibrates at 28,800 beats per hour (BPH) or 8
beats per second vs. 5 BPH for most mechanical watches. The ETA 2824-2 is found
in many name brand watches costing thousands, including Tag Heuer, Tudor to
name a few.
Decorative touches include gold plating. In addition, the
winding rotor is decorated and signed INVICTA TWENTY-FIVE 25 JEWELS SWISS MOVT.

The Case – Made of brushed and polished solid
stainless steel with a screw on stainless steel exhibition case back. It is
embossed with Invicta on the side away from the crown. It features screw in
pins instead of push pins, a nice feature. The crown is signed with the
Invicta logo. The screw down crown adds to the 9937’s water resistance. The
watch is rated water resistant to 200 meters.
|
|
Face and Bezel – The 9937 has a uni-directional bezel
with minute markers at 20, 30, 40, and 50 minutes. It turns in on direction,
so that if used for diving, if moved accidentally it will error on the side of
fewer minutes remaining. It is quite stiff so it should stay in place where
set.
The face has the Invicta logo at 12 o’clock. It has Tritnite®
luminous hour markers.
The dial has second markers. At the 6 o’clock position are
the words AUTOMATIC PROFESSIONAL 660ft – 200M WATER RESISTANT, near the edge,
SWISS MOVEMENT.
It has Mercedes luminous hour and minute hands. The second
hand has a luminous dot at the tip. The counter balance end has the shape of
the Invicta logo, a nice touch.
|
 |
|
There is a date display at 6 o’clock.
Crystal – Synthetic Sapphire with date magnifier at 6
o’clock. This material is significantly more scratch resistant than standard
mineral glass found on most watches in this price range. On a hardness scale
from 1 to 10, diamond being hardest at 10, synthetic sapphire rates at 9.
|
|
Bracelet – The bracelet is similar in appearance to
the Rolex Submariner, and is made of solid high quality stainless steel. The
links are a hefty 4.85mm thick and 20 mm wide.
Unlike the Submariner, the 9937 has contrasting brushed outer links and polished center links, a nice touch.
It has a solid stainless steel t-bar buckle with flip lock clasp. The bracelet fits up to an 8” wrist with remove links for sizing.

|
Packaging – The 9937 comes in a nice yellow Invicta
presentation box with instructions, one year warranty card and optional
extended warranty papers.

Overall Impression – Performance wise, the Invicta
9937 can stand up to its higher priced competitors with an identical engine,
the tried and proven ETA 2824-2 25 jewel automatic. The quality of the case
and bracelet is very high. The sapphire crystal and exhibition case back, and
gold plated movement add to the value of this watch.
The classic Submariner styling, quality and price draws most
buyers to the same conclusion. This is a great watch at a great price, making
the Invicta 9937 an excellent overall value. Invicta makes two other versions of this watch, the 9938 with a blue face and gold accenta and the 9939 all gold plated.
